Houston Attorney's Show How Car Wrecks Reveal Car Defects
Car Wrecks and Car Defects Cause Greater Injuries
How your car performs during a wreck is very important. A well-designed car should protect you in a car wreck. If it doesn't,
or if it causes you to suffer more severe injuries, then you have rights and you should speak with a car wreck attorney at the Matthews
& Fullmer Law Firm in Houston.
Car Manufactures responsible for car wrecks caused by defects
How your car performs in a collision, including the manner in which certain built-in safety features respond, is very
important. In simple terms, manufacturers of cars know that the vehicles they make are going to be involved in wrecks. So, if auto
makers have knowledge about wrecks, shouldn't they design a vehicle that will keep us safe? Moreover, a car manufacturer shouldn't
make vehicles that actually cause us more harm because of their defects. Have car makers added safety or have they made a calculation
that your injury was not worth preventing?
A "Minor" Car Wreck Turned into Tragedy
For instance, in some cases in which Matthews & Fullmer attorneys have fought for their clients, what should have been
minor car wrecks have tragically resulted in major injuries and preventable deaths.
In one such case, a van was rear-ended by another car. Though all of the passengers inside the van were fine and had no
injuries from the impact, the unprotected fuel tank on the van was punctured during the collision. An enormous fire quickly engulfed
the van. While some occupants were able to get out with minor burn injuries, several people received fatal burn injuries in this
collision. The car crash wasn't major, but the fact that the van had a poorly design fuel system resulted in a very tragic outcome for
this family. This is an example of the car crash revealing a car defect and causing serious personal injuries and wrongful deaths.
Car Wreck Injuries from Other Car Defects
Car defects won't always result in a fire or some other obvious event. Some car defects might include a seatbelt that didn't
properly work to restrain the occupants of the car, an airbag that failed to deploy, or a steering mechanism that failed to control the
car prior to the crash. These defects can cause terrible injuries and wrongful deaths. Some defects might even be the cause of the crash.
Not long ago, the Matthews & Fullmer Law Firm received a call from a widow. She was unsure as to how her husband died in a
relatively minor car wreck. Doug Matthews & Toby Fullmer investigated the wreck and discovered that the death of her husband was caused
by a defect in the car, not from the car crash itself. In fact, had this defect not been present in the car, the investigation revealed
that this widow's husband would have been able to walk away from the car crash without an injury. She hired the Matthews & Fullmer Law
Firm. After prosecuting her case against the manufacturer of the car, we were pleased that she and her family received substantial
compensation to help deal with their terrible loss.
